i brought a beautifull large orchid the other week in tesco
half price
now i cant find the care label
how do i water it
think its just little water every so often from the base

Yes that's right Saundra, and rain water if you can. I collect it and keep it in one of those sprayer bottles. Pour a bit of water in, and spray the leaves every now and then

Mine is a small one from Lidl, it flowered twice last year. I just did it with water this morning and there's a new little shoot

The ceramic pot it's in is stepped, so the plastic pot with the actual plant doesn't sit in the water, iyswim. It just needs the damp around it

They are one of those plants that thrive on neglect, which is lucky in this house

I agree, they actually are surprisingly easy to look after. When I first got mine I was told to every two weeks take the entire pot and soak it in water for about 15 minutes so the wood chips could get really wet which would then be enough for the plant.

A year or so back I started just watering them weekly - a small amount of water and dribbled evenly around the plant pot to make sure as many wood chips as possible got a bit soaked and it works fine for me. I bought my orchids about 4 years ago now and this photo was taken from one flowering last year



And it's flowering the same again right now

What I find they do like is a nice cool spot; they don't like full hot sun.
