Washing trainers

Postby debih » 15 Mar 2013, 15:15

After my disastrous attempt at washing a pillow I am getting advice before I wash L's trainers.

She has come back from her residential stay with school with at least four loads of extremely filthy washing (she only went for two nights   ).

I have never washed trainers before - always managed to get away with wiping them - but these two pairs definitely need more than a quick once over with a damp cloth.

What is the best way to wash them please - should I put them inside something (a pillow case) or should I just chuck them in the drum. What setting should they be on and how long should I wash them for?

Inside an old pillowcase, to muffle the banging noise of them going round and round in the drum if nothing else!! I do them on a lowish temp and a short wash if you can, they have always come up lovely :D

I have a 30 degree, 30 minute eco wash.

I will try them on that. She has one old pair and one new pair so I shall do the old pair first.

Do I put them in on their own or with other things (clothes)?

I was forever washing my 3 boys trainers!

I used to do what Gal says with the pillowcase and only bunged jeans in with them as they can stand any amount of mish mashing in the machine.

Most trainers will wash up beautifully :D I do both B's and H's when they need it - Mick and I don't wear them  I just bung them in on their own, on the eco wash. I don't mind the banging 'cos the utilty has a door and that can be closed, but a pillowcase will take care of that anyway, as has been said :)

They are in the washer now - you will all be in trouble if they come out all lumpy and bumpy like the pillow!

I've tossed mine and the kids in many times, but if they are really really dirty, or leather uppers, I prefer the old toothbrush and ba of sunlight soap method. I find they come out sparkling clean like day 1.

And for the record, I've never used his nibs's toothbrush.
