Panic......

my cats have never had flea treatment before, but because they are going into the cattery they have to be done. So I bought my Advantage from Simon and his final words to me were "make sure they don't lick it off" I treated them about half an hour ago and Mia has just walked into the kitchen with streams of drool and froth and foam coming out of her mouth. Obviously wiggle that she is managed to lick it.

I rang out of hours who were really helpful. The vet said wash her mouth out really well and wash it off her coat as best you can. So Tim held whilst I syringed water in the mouth and then we washed her back. I towel dried her and she is now sitting in her bed glaring out me.

What a panic though, I thought she was having a seizure.

Shell, are you sure she licked her own or could she have tried grooming Mowgli?

Mine are all way over due their worm and flea treatment and I hate doing it for exactly the reason you mention; they are so wriggly you just cannot control it and to make it worse, four of mine have long hair so trying to get it where it needs to be is a night mare.

I did wonder about her licking Mowgli Ria, but her patch did look very wet. The out of hours vet said because it is dangerous if ingested it is made to taste extremely bitter so as soon as they lick, they react like Mia and don't do it again

As an aside, do you think her insurance would have covered her for that? Do they have accidental damage as such?

I would have thought the insurance would cover that, yes..... I see no reason why not Shell.

I have never treated mine for fleas or worms in the past Ria

I'm sure she'll be fine - she must have licked it off her mate - if it was on the back of her neck she must be very bendy to get to it!

I put it lower down Deb, sort of between the shoulder blades like I used to with the dogs, but believe me she is bendy. When I give her her tablet at night, I start off with her head in my hands and somehow end up holding a tail

Shell, it is amazing just how wriggly and bendy they are isn't it. I had to give my Harry ear drops for just over three weeks - that was a mission at times I tell you

Re the flea and worm treatment, I have to.... mine all have outdoor access and three of them do catch and eat birds and mice or bring them home. I cannot remember the connection but fleas and tapeworm apparently go hand in hand for some reason so I have no choice really.

I do worm twice a year because of the hunting, but it's the flea treatment I'm lax about as mine thankfully have never had fleas (that I'm aware of)

Mm that did make me smile, cats are a nightmare for it aren't they. I used to always have cats, some would be so easy and willing, others not a chance.
Minnie has never had a flea, we did used to treat her but everything says it doesn't work once they're wet and she was in the sea every day - which obviously helps anyway, so we stopped bothering.
In the past I've had to deal with horrible invasions of them though, despite regular treatment, they're virtually indestructible little wotsits
