Surprising!

We've always thought - well we were told by the rescue place - that Fraggle is a Shih Tzu crossed with Cairn Terrier. Becky has always suspected that he might have some Staffie in him, as he is powerfully built, so when she came across a site online that does DNA testing for dogs, she decided to go for it! :o  Swabbing the inside of his cheek was a performance, but anyway she got it done and sent it off!

The big surprise is that he has no Shih Tzu, Cairn or Staffie in him! He is 50/50 Llahsa Apso and French Bulldog   A first generation cross between two pure breds  Looking up the temperaments of both breeds it is him to a tee!

My friend did this with her rescue dog. She was told Poppy was a German Shepherd x Alaskan Malamute the DNA test came back mostly Norwegian Elkhound, then Siberian Husky and small amount of German Shepherd

I think it’s fascinating but I do wonder how accurate. Although Poppy does look like a Norwegian Elkhound

I think rescues can only take an educated guess, unless they know the parentage going by the look of the dog! B was told 98% accuracy with the testing :)

Do you mean from what we thought? Or the Llhasa/ bulldog mix? I agree but he is a very unusual looking dog! :)

Now he's been identified it makes sense, but don't think anyone would have guessed! :D

Di, that's exactly how it feels for us :D 8-)

Gal I meant to put links to both breeds! Sorry  He is very like a Lhasa, facially!

Isn't that interesting! Becky was right about the bull breed!

Funnily enough Collie was never mentioned in Bill's mix by Dog's Trust and his parents both looked predominantly German Shepherd (as did the rest of the litter) but he's got the colouring for a start and he does that low rounding up walk that Collies do when he sees other dogs, and tries to round us up if we walk apart. I do see German Shepherd in him (the ears for a start!!) facially and in his stance at times.
