What an amazing sucess

I dropped Millie off at the vets this morning for her day of being loved and pampered by all the nurses and spoke to Laura, the head nurse about the food maze. We were incredibly sceptical about it as we thought that with her very long tongue she would just get the food out straight away but she said that to keep Dan happy she would try.

Mick rang me later in the day (I have been in meetings all day so the vet couldn't get me) to say that Laura had rung to say that the maze was an aMAZEing success. They mixed the food up as usual and then smeared it around it (the maze is actually made for dry biscuits) and Millie was able to eat it herself and keep it down. She can't gulp it down as she has to lick it but at least she is eating more like a dog now - rather than being spoon fed by a baby!

We have tried it out at home and she loves it. I can put food in it and walk away and leave her - what a change from spending over 90 minutes every day hand feeding her. And it gives me much more confidence to leave her with my mum and dad when we go to Legoland as I had been really worried about the extra work that it would give my mum.

So did I MM. Fortunately we just have a concrete floor down at the moment - god help my proper floor when that goes down!

The biggest problem is going to be finding somewhere to put it. When I first tried it I just plonked it in the middle of the floor so she could get all round it but that is hardly practical for us! I have now put it in a corner between her water bowl and the freezer but I don't know how well she will manage that (although she is there now, having a good go at it). The other place will be by the back door as we only tend to go out of that to nip to the bins, etc rather than use it as an entrance door.

Mick is going to get some magnetic strip and attach it to the bottom of the bowl and the top of the little stool I have put it on (I have actually now stacked three little stools on top of each other to make it a bit higher as I know that Dan is keen she eats from a height - the stools can be separated easily as L uses them now and again to stand on).

I can't even begin to put into words how amazing it feels to be able to put food in a bowl for her and leave her to eat it.

I've raised it up even more now by putting it on three of the little stool things and have put it in a corner so that she isn't curled round when she eats from it.

So far today she has had 7 meals from it and has kept them all down. :D :D :D

Wow Debih that's fantastic!!
How about putting it inside a washing-up bowl? It would still move around the floor but would be contained?

Its too big Di - its massive! It needs to be raised up for her to eat from it and is actually quite sturdy on the little stools. Some magnetic strip should just make it even sturdier.

It is in the dishwasher at the moment so it is ready for tomorrow. However, I think it will generally be washed by hand as it takes up far too much space!
