Jasmine

Our cat Jasmine is about 14 years old and has slowed down in the past couple of years, but has always eaten well and popped out into the garden to have a snoop around when Jasper isn't looking! If Jasper sees her she bats him off with her paw and basically tells him to get lost! The past 2 or 3 days I have noticed a gradual change in her. She is now hardly eating and can't even be bothered to bat Jasper away. She is pretty lethargic but doesn't seem to be in any pain and has no sickness that I have seen. Today she ate a small amount of chicken, but not that much. A few moments ago D picked her up for a cuddle and I noticed that her pupils are fixed and dilated :?
Her sister died a number of years ago from a brain tumour and her pupils went like this. I'll see how she is in the morning and then take her to the vet to give her the once over.

Oh Loz how sad...we all know these things happen but 14 years is such a long time to share your life with isn't it.
Hope it's something simpler and can be fixed but you never know do you

Thank you. She seems a bit brighter this morning and she has eaten a little. She is purring and seems calm and settled. Her eyes are behaving normally too today :? Anyway I will still see if the vet will see her tomorrow. I'm not going to charge down there with her today as I want to see if she will eat something first. If she was unhappy I would be there like a shot, but I'm keeping a close eye on her.

Loz, given the age it could also be the start of degenerating kidneys which will make her feel ill and under the weather; which is why she's not eating much as she may be feeling nauseous. Have you noticed if she is drinking more than usual?

Hopefully you've been to the vet by now and he's done a senior cat blood test which will show up something easily treatable. My Molly has kidney problems and gets one pill a day for it so it's quite easy to manage.

Fusses to Jasmine and let us know how you get on

Mia has kidney problems too, but Fortekor has been brilliant and now she is on the cheaper generic version. Hope Jasmine is feeling better now xx
